about

In May 1996, Brian Damage and Bill Abominog were invited to visit Tim Coffey at his new residence in Karlsruhe, Gemany. Tim was part of the Cape Breton crowd that also included Art Damage and Todd Hunde. Tim also did the art for Phÿcus' “BURN” cassette. Our tour guide to the German industrial scene was Frank Lyman. Phÿcus was aware of the new minimal analog scene developing in Europe, but to be immersed in it for two weeks was a revelation. Phÿcus would get leaner and meaner!

“Sado-Kommander Nine” was Phÿcus' 12th release on cassette, coming out on Musicus Phÿcus (MPCS 971) on Phÿcus' 9th anniversary, March 15, 1997 in an edition of 30 copies.

Side One:
01 Blood And Guts (SK9)
Demo for “X”.
02 Resin (SK9)
A late nite jam.
03 Corpusse's Favorite Pastry (SK9)
The backwards mix. A forwards mix appears on “X96”.

Side Two:
04 Hymn to The Great Grand Goat (SK9)
05 Feed The Goat (SK9)
Live in Toronto at “The Legacy of Rust”.
06 Yes! I'm Gonna Destroy You (SK9)
Demo for “X”.
07 Analog Mantra (SK9)
A re-recording of an instrumental version of “Creed” using samples from analog instruments.
08 The Television Said Love Me (SK9)
recorded in 1995 and submitted to CKDU-FM radio in Halifax as part of an audio art competition. This was a “selected work” and received a prize of $50! There was also supposed to be a compilation of the selected works, but this never seemed to materialize. The guitar is sampled from the theme to “Beverly Hills 90210”, and the dialogue was sampled from commercials that played during and after the broadcast.
09 Back in Black (SK9)
A re-recording. The original appears on “X96”.
10 Cum On Feel The Noize (SK9)
A re-recording. The original appears on “X96”. This version appeared on “X” as “Feel Da Noize”.

Bonus track:
11 Teeny Püppchen
Written in preparation for the German trip and appeared on the 1997 compilation “Art Sickness II” on the Austenite label.

about

Phÿcus Montreal, Québec

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
