about

Studio jam with Flatline Construct (Ryan Bloomer) at the CFFF studios. Released as “Bent Radio” on Ryan’s “White Tapes” label. The title is a pun on the radio station’s name “Trent (University) Radio”.

While the Maritime leg of the Trans-National Disembraining Tour was disastrous financially, it was great musically and a lot of fun as well. The Ontario leg was just straight up disastrous.

The tour originally planned 7 dates, three of which were cancelled. Wakefield: “We decided not to do it after all”, Guelph: “My buddy’s band really wants to play that night, so we’re bumping you from the bill”, and Peterborough: no reason given, we only found out that the show was cancelled when a friend of ours, Ryan Bloomer of the band Flatline Construct asked the club owner if he could DJ that night. The club owner finally called us two days before the show and left a message saying that “it was imperative that we call back”. We didn’t.

The touring lineup consisted of Brian, Bill Abominog, Bertrand Boisvert and Kristain Lehmann, who were even more unruly on the road than during the Montreal gigs. And to top it off, the van rental turned out to cost more than double the price we were expecting, something like $1100!!

The Kitchener gig was probably our worst gig ever. It involved a ten-hour drive each way, we played to a small and apathetic audience and got paid twenty bucks. The only positive of the Kitchener show was hanging with Mind Skelp-cher, who were cool.

The other bright note of the tour was jamming with Flatline Construct at the CFFF studios on our way back from Toronto. Mercifully, no recordings exist of this leg of the tour.

Phÿcus Montreal, Québec

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
