about

Yelling And Screaming And Jumping Up And Down was a split cassette from Trondant and Phÿcus released by the Xerxes label in Japan (ES-35). It was Phÿcus’ 14th (and final) release on cassette, and 18th release overall.

In the summer of 1999, Brian set up a show for Japanese noise artists MSBR (Koji Tano) and Government Alpha (Yasutoshi Yoshida). Also on the bill was Phÿcus and Corpusse. Both guys were super-nice and delivered great sets. Yasutoshi Yoshida invited Brian to submit material for a cassette on his label, Xerxes. The result was this split cassette between Trondant and Phÿcus. Despite its title, "Yelling And Screaming And Jumping Up And Down", the cassette consisted of quiet experimental music, unlike the usual artists found on Xerxes such as Knurl, Napalmed and S. Isabella. Probably not what Yasutoshi was expecting!

Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
