about

It was a beautiful spring day, 1995. The official launch action for “brainmower” which took place on May 6, 1995 on the sidewalk in front of L’Oblique Records, Rivard Street, Montreal. This was a semi-geurilla operation: L'Oblique knew we were going to do the launch, but we didn't go as far as asking anyone's permission or anything formal like that. Features Brian Damage, Christian Lisso (of Ichor / I-Totem) and Foe Noumenon. Guest vocals from Jacek "The Doom Hammer" of Zaraza and the participation of the crowd which included Alan Bloor (Knurl), Jacek (Zaraza) Ollie Loopy (Ze Zinjanthropes), Dan Foley (QRN) and Phillipe Richy (QRN).

This was followed a couple weeks later by the official launch of "brainmower" at the Jailhouse Rock bar in Montreal. First stop on the “Trans-National Disembraining Tour”. Opening acts: Knurl and Ed Fuller.
The show included a duet from Ed Fuller and Phÿcus, covering "I Am, I Said".

We found this old candelabra on the street on the way to the show, which we installed above the stage. It rained wax on us for the entire show. Great to hear the audience yell out “Burn!” and “Destroy!”.

Phÿcus Montreal, Québec

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
