about

In 1983 lots of new wave bands had gimmicks, and I thought it would be funny if there was a new wave band where the members were priests. Some of my friends - Art Damage, J.D.,l Brian S. and Nick - also thought it was amusing enough of an idea to join in on the joke. I brought a cassette of a demo of 'The Pope Ain't No Dope' to a local DJ named Barry McKinnon. Strangely enough, he also thought it was funny, so he brought us to the production studio of CJCB-AM and we recorded a version of it there (the version on this release). Barry played it a few times on the air as well. We went back into the studio with Barry two other times; to record 'Nice Day To Be A Priest' and 'Out Of Line' . Barry was cool and I think he was doing this wierd project for the fun of it. The rest of the Father Brian And The Bishops tracks were recorded at Art Damage's attic in 1984 and 1985. The live tracks were recorded at a party at JD's place, probably 1984.

We figured we needed an anti-band to Father Brian And The Bishops, so Black Halo was formed. Same crew, different vibe. Recorded in my basement and at JD's place, 1983 to 1985.

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
