about

1993 was a year of flux for Phÿcus. The classic Montreal Lineup was in the process of disbanding: Thierry would soon move to Quebec City, Bill Abominog moved to Cape Breton, and Foe had left to concentrate more on circus gigs.

“Brainmower” had been recorded, and we were waiting on Raw Energy Records of Toronto to see if they wanted to release it. After almost a year of waiting, they said no.

Terra Vox had opened a space on Ontario St., called Praxis. It was a multi-disciplinary performance space that was used by the Terra Vox collective and rented out for events such as art exhibitions, music performances, dance performances and small raves. The Praxis space lasted for about a year.

In September 1993, Terra Vox hosted the Italian atmospheric band Ordo Equituum Solis. Phÿcus opened with an ambient set, which included the debut of material that would eventually appear on the Sonderkommando Now CD.

This show also marked the first onstage appearance of Neil Wiernik, who is active in the music scene as the experimental electronic artist naw (nawmusic1.bandcamp.com) and a member of post rock band Whisper Room (whisperroom.bandcamp.com).

about

Phÿcus Montreal, Québec

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
