about

“BURN” was the fifth official release from Phÿcus, released on the Terra Vox label (TVX-013) on November 1, 1991 in an edition of 100 copies. It was preceeded by the radio demo “WROT”.

With “BURN”, the potential of Phÿcus’ powers hinted at on “rench/reck” became fully realized.

The genesis of this material came in the summer of 1991 when Bruce briefly returned to Montreal, en route to St. John’s. While Bruce was in town, he wrote the lyrics for “This Is The Burn”, did the recording of this track and “Grandmaster Phÿcus”, came up with the idea of doing the Motorhead cover (vocals were done by tape trading), and most importantly, it was decided that Phycus needed an umlaut, thus Phycus became Phÿcus.

As would often be the case for Phÿcus, a dozen people contributed to this release.

about

Phÿcus Montreal, Québec

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
