July, 1997. Neoists from around the globe converge in Hungary for a series of festivals in the cities of Vac, Budapest, and Debrecen. The participants include BruSeX and myself representing Phÿcus, zany American performance artist tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE, Neoist Chef Gordon W. from Berlin, Toronto PoPo artists Jubal Brown and Jada D'Aversa, Montreal-based lecturer and performance artist Ghera, Angela Idealism, an avant-guard vocalist from New York, and, of course, Istvan Kantor/Monty Cantsin/Amen, taking the role of the eye of Hurricane Neoism.
“Magyar Akćio” was Phÿcus' 13th release on cassette, coming out on Musicus Phÿcus (MPCS 981) on Phÿcus' 10th anniversary, March 15, 1998 in an edition of 30 copies. Artwork by BruSeX. It is the official audio document of Phÿcus’ Hungarian actions. “X” had not yet been released, but we were already sensing that a change in musical direction – towards noise and atmospherics, and away from beats and songs – was coming.
There are three digital editions of “Magyar Akćio”. This one is the cassette as it was released, with the original liner notes. There is also an expanded edition, only for the strong, entitled “Magyar Akćio: Totális Expanzio”, with unedited versions of the tracks, lots of bonus material and expanded liner notes. Finally, there is “Több Magyar Akćio”, a document of Phÿcus’ industrial music performances in Hungary.
