about

THIS IS NOT “X”, THE TRIPLE LP, THIS IS “X”, THE CASSETTE, A/K/A “X96”, A/K/A “ANTI-X-MAS”.

X96 was the 11th Phÿcus release on cassette, given to band members and friends in an edition of 30 in January 1997, as an anti-X-mas gift. Originally intended to be released in December 1996, this tape was subjected to the usual organizational delays. It contains a hodgepodge of demos, abandoned ideas and live tracks. Most of the good stuff on this cassette later appeared on the Phÿcus 9th anniversary cassette “Sado-Kommander Nine”. The original liner notes follow:

About “X”:
This tape was released in December, 1996 as an Anti-Christ Mass gift to Phÿcus members and closest friends. Side one consists of two demos from “Sonderkommando Now!” plus one new piece, while side two presents a selection of covers, including the suite “Phÿcus Salutes Classic Rock”. Some of the tracks appearing on this cassette will re-emerge on the Phÿcus ninth anniversary tape entitled “Sado-Kommander Nine”.

Side One:
Mental Illness (Lamia Mix):
This was the first version of this song, recorded in collaboration with those unwashed musical madmen known as Lamia.

You're Killing Me (Demo):
Recorded on a 4-track at Brain Surgery Warehouse, Montreal.

Corpusse's Favorite Pastry:
Recorded the night after seeing Download in concert, although this song is not about Download at all. In fact, the less you know what this song is about, the better. Corpusse knows.

Side Two:
Feed The Goat:
Originally recorded by Goathead (of course). This version was recorded live in Toronto.

Back in Black:
Yes, the AC/DC song. A demo version.

Cum On Feel The Noize:
Another Classic Rock gem, and again a demo.

Cum On Feel The Noize:
Steve Markowski's special adaptation.

Cum On Feel The Noize:
Recorded live in Toronto.

about

Phÿcus Montreal, Québec

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
