Techno Traxxxxxx

Phÿcus had been following the techno scene since 1991, when Brian Damage interviewed Rhys Fulber from Front Line Assembly, who said that he was mostly listening to hard techno and made some recommendations.

This release compiles some of these techo experiments, so hot we had to add 6 X’s!

Tracks 01 – 04:

A collaboration between Thomas B. (FSK-1138) and Brian Damage, at Thomas’ studio in Montreal.

Thomas was the most futuristic dude we knew. He was the first person we knew who owned a laser-pointer – back when they cost like a hundred bucks! He could pull off the “Tron” look at a rave and look totally cool. He was also a relentless gear-hound and was always selling old gear to upgrade his set up.

FSK-1138 is still active to this day. Some material is available on iTunes.

01 FSK 1138 & Phÿcus - Happy Happy Joy Joy (Traxxxxxx)
02 FSK 1138 & Phÿcus - 1139 (Traxxxxxx)
03 FSK 1138 & Phÿcus - Money = Rave Happiness (Traxxxxxx)
04 FSK 1138 & Phÿcus - Pound Of Pavement (Traxxxxxx)

Tracks 05 – 07:

At the time, there was a hardcore and gabba night hosted by Robert De La Gauthier at DAX, every Sunday night. The Raëlians wre hosting raves in the old port, and Tiga was setting up raves all over the city.

By 1993, these raves started attracting the attention of the police, who were apparently alarmed by all that dancing. A huge rave, hosted by Tiga in a space that is now the Grande Bibliotheque in Montreal, was shut down by the cops, leading to a riot in the street.

Brian Damage released a cassette EP of hardcore techno under the name “Riot Squad”, claiming to incorporate an image from the riot and the sounds from the riot on the cassette. In reality, both the cassette cover image and the riot sounds were taken from an album by the grouop Missing Foundation.

05 Riot Squad - Metal Rave - Brain Mix - 171 BPM (Traxxxxxx)
06 Riot Squad - Metal Rave - Raid Mix - 250 BPM (Traxxxxxx)
07 Riot Squad - Metal Rave - Blast Mix - 350 BPM (Traxxxxxx)

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
