about

Recorded: July 30, 1988 at the National Campus and Community Radio Conference (NCCRC) showcase, aka “Cram Jam”, aka “Radio Death Conference”, Club Flamingo, Halifax.

Songs:
01 “Be My Naber (Let’s Be Together Today version)” – Brian yells, Bruce and SPK-553 bang, Art does rude things to a guitar.

02 “Burning Electricity” – Bruce meditates, Brian plays music, SPK-553 scrapes and Art adds effects.

03 “Mistress Lisa’s Dominant Tanning Salon” – SPK-553 yells, Bruce dies feedback, Art drums, Brian plays synth bass.

04 “Lionel Ritchie (Crimes Against Humanity)” – Brian recites lyrics and plays noise, Bruce does more feedback, Art adds more noise, and SPK-553 beats the shit out of pieces of metal.

05 “Locked Out Of My House” – Bruce does techno-core vocals, Art thrashes on the drums, Brian adds keyboards, and SPK-553 finishes off the pieces of metal and wall tiles we stole from backstage.

06 “I Like To Be Told” – Brian sings, everyone else looks perplexed because I forgot to tell them we were doing this song.

07 “Sludge-O-Rama – I Eat Art” – Sort of a combination version of these two songs (we were running out of time). Bruce finishes off his guitar, Art adds effects, Brian plays keyboards with his head, and SPK-553 yells while mauling a chicken. People are yelling “Eat the chicken!”. SPK-553 originally planned to eat it onstage, but we were told that we weren’t allowed. Response is enthusiastic.

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
