This cassette compiles four live recordings of Phycus from 1989, two of which appeared on the demo cassette "Phlegm Time One", released in March, 1989.

Scott Righteous (Drums)
SPK-553 (metal, vocals on 2 and 3)

"OK, folks, let`s welcome Phycus". You can hear the resignation in the voice of the host of "Open Mic Night" at the Club Flamingo in Halifax, as Phycus is once again about to take over the stage. And for the last time before the band left Halifax.

After the set there was some kind of altercation between
members of the band and the organizers of the event, resulting in us
being banned from the club. No matter, we were leaving town, anyways.

The Abbey road track Phycus chose was "Because", and, as usual, Phycus approached this cover with only a vague idea of how the original version went.

The other bands on the bill were Furious George, Big Fridge, Mescuddly,
Unknown Quantity and Kearney Lake Road.

Incidentally, the first ever mention of Phycus on the internet came from Steve Cooke in a usenet post:
"Ah, I remember an open mic night at a local club where all the bands got
together to recreate Abbey Road onstage. I was in an industrial band
called Phycus (instruments included samplers, metal plate, and a meat
grinder. I played bass) that did a ten minute version of Because. Well,
we just kept playing until we were dragged off the stage."

about

Phÿcus Montreal, Québec

Phÿcus was a Canadian industrial / experimental band that existed from 1988 to 2000. Phÿcus transformed from the traditional band format into a network that included over 50 contributors in a dozen locales, with Montreal as its centre of operations. Phÿcus' success was minimal, but their output was prodigious. Now in 2020, Phÿcus is back with a new release, "CrowleyWood". ... more
