“Effluviator” was the seventh official cassette from Phÿcus, released May 1993.
At this time, the tracks for the CD “Brainmower” had already been recorded, and “Effluviator” served as a selection of demos from “Brainmower”. This gives the tracks on “Effluviator” a raw-sounding feel, but also leaves the cassette feeling unfinished. As with "rench/reck" and "BURN", it is divided into a studio side and a live side.
It was released on the Terra Vox label (TVX-016) in an edition of 50 copies.
The Flamecus logo was designed by Sylvain Ferland, who was doing a fanzine at the time called “Pustule”. Cover design by SPK-553. Title created by Bruce X.
Scar Side :
01 Blood Crave (Effluviator)
The first track recorded in studio by Phÿcus, engineered by Dan Foley of QRN. The track was initially destined for a compilation called “In Extremis”, but was never relased. This is the same version that appears on “Brainmower”. This is one of Bill’s songs, a re-imagining of the gallant vampire of the Anne Rice books as a crusty type. Features the classic Montreal lineup of Bill, Brian, Thierry and Foe.
02 Scars And Meat For Evil (Effluviator)
This one is also mostly Bill. Not about anything in particular, just some phrases that sounded good together. Features Bill and Brian on vocals and electronics and Thierry on guitar.
03 Destroy The Earth (Effluviator)
Written by Bill and Brian while coming back from the punk food bank. Classic “Fuck this planet” sentiment.
04 Geurra Devastadora (Effluviator)
Bill and Brian hooked up with these brazilian death metal girls, took them home, and made this track.
05 Analog Dog (Effluviator)
This is the “Xmas Rave” track, plus additional backwards vocals, because why not. Features Todd Heunde on Moog MG-1 , Bill on Casio CZ-1000, and Brian on Roland TR-909 and vocals.
Recorded at various studio locations, Montreal, 1992.

06 Tottering Structures (Effluviator)

Bill and Brian having a laugh, recorded at the Neoist Embassy, March 1991.

Recorded by Brain and Monty Cantsin at the Neoist Embassy, March 1991. This was a demo for Monty’s “The Anti-Cycles of Megaphony” project.
